We collaborated with Dan Tobin Smith, a creative agency, for a commercial shoot in London, with Telstra as the end customer of the project. The project spanned three days and involved six professional domino artists. It showcased our ability to transform spaces with mesmerising domino designs and creative execution, aiming to highlight Telstra's new "Home Performance Internet" offering through a visually captivating domino display. Our role was to design and execute a domino setup that seamlessly integrated with their commercial narrative, demonstrating the reliability and reach of their Smart Modem 3.
The set was designed to resemble a modern, minimalistic home with a living room, dining room, and an upstairs bedroom connected by a staircase. Although the set appeared to have multiple floors, it was a clever optical illusion with all the rooms and the staircase aligned flat on the floor, with strategic camera angles creating the effect of a multi-story house. The minimalist design of the set allowed the custom-coloured dominoes to take center stage, featuring Telstra’s brand colours - vibrant hues of orange and blue - applied only to the faces of the dominoes, creating a beautiful colour reveal effect as they toppled.
We crafted an intricate domino setup that began with the Telstra Smart Modem 3 lighting up, setting off a mesmerising cascade of dominoes that flowed smoothly through the entire home. The toppling effect mimicked the seamless and widespread coverage of Telstra’s internet service, with dominoes flowing up furniture, around corners, and along the floor in a smooth, uninterrupted motion. The cascading dominoes added dynamic movement to the set and complemented the whimsical narrative of the advertisement, effectively underscoring the message of "Home Performance Internet".
This project was a perfect example of how domino toppling can bring a brand’s story to life in a unique and memorable way. The custom dominoes, creative set design, and seamless execution contributed to a stunning final product that resonated with audiences both visually and conceptually.
